A One State solution to the Israeli- Palestinian Conflict, preached by Anti- Zionists is a prescription for a Bloody Civil War / DR.Rivka Shpak Lissak

A one state solution is a prescription for a continuous struggle between Jews and Palestinians. Only separation between the two nations and a 2 state solution will solve the problem.

Prof.A.Biltzki, a former chairwoman of the Israeli Human Rights organization "Betzelem," an organization that publishes reports on the so- called "violations" of human rights and war crimes conducted by Israel on the Western Bank and Gaza Strip, gave a lecture at MIT on October 22, 2007 on the Israeli- Palestinian conflict. http://mitworld.mit.edu/video/522

On the lecture she revealed the political agenda of the organization. The organization's goal is to replace the Jewish state with one state from the Mediterranean Sea to the Jordan River, and create a Palestinian Majority by settling all the refugees in the new state, which will be, a Palestinian state, with a Jewish minority.

Prof.Anat Biletzki, an Israli, told the Challenge Magazin interviewer, as published in its July- August 2005 issue, that she considers herself a leftist, an Anti- Zionist, a Marxist – Communist and a humanist. http://www.challenge-mag.com/

Communism is an ideology that collapsed with the crumbling down of the Soviet Union and the Communist states. As is well known, Communism rejected from its outset the notion that there is a Jewish nationality and that the Jews are a people. Since Communism never recognized that Jews are a nation, it never supported the right of Jews for self- determination.

The Soviet Union supported the UN 1947 resolution to divide the Holy Land into 2 states: a Jewish state and an Arabic state, as part of its policy to put an end to British imperialism in the Middle East. The Soviet Union recognized the state of Israel for the same reason, but continued with its anti- Zionist policy.

Being a Marxist- Communist and an Anti- Zionist, it is reasonable to assume, that Prof. Biletzki does not believe that Jews are a nation and she does not recognize its right of self- determination, regardless of the Israeli occupation of Gaza Strip and the Western Bank. In other words, she does not consider Israel as a rightful Jewish state.

Israeli occupation provided her and other Anti- Zionists, Anti- Israel and Anti-Semites around the world with a convenient platform – the human rights platform - to achieve their goal to eliminate the Jewish state and replace it with a Palestinian state.

In the one state all the Jewish symbols, flag, national anthem, the Jewish Law of Return, and Jewish traditional features will be canceled, all the Palestinian refugees will be settled in the one state. It is reasonable to assume that the Palestinian majority will introduce Palestinian symbols and features, instead.

Prof.Biletzki argued that Israel is not a democracy because of the special status of the Jewish majority's to the disadvantage of the 20% Israeli Arab minority. Does democracy prevails if the majority is Palestinian and the Jews are the minority?

Research done by Jonathan D.Halevi, a researcher of The Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs, revealed that "Betzelem's" reports include inaccurate information on the situation in the occupied territories and suffers from a double standards policy. The organization counts recognized terrorists as civilians killed by the Israeli army, in order to "prove" that Israel kills many innocent civilians. For example, 2 leaders of the Hamas terrorist organization, Sheik Yassin and Rantizi, who were killed by the Israeli army, were counted as innocent civilians. Another example: Israeli soldiers who fight terror against Israeli civilians are accused for war crimes, but Palestinian terrorists who kill Israeli civilians are freedom fighters. The organization's policy is to create a demonic image of Israel in order to bring to its de-legitimation, and elimination.

Prof.A.Biletzki, said as early as 1972, 6 years after Israel's occupation of the Western Bank and Gaza Strip, that a 2 state solution is an unrealistic solution and only one state will solve the Israeli- Palestinian conflict. Such a statement in 1972, when there were only few settlements, no fence, no Intifada, and no casualties on both sides, reveals the fact that Biletzki's real issue is the elimination of the Jewish state.

On the MIT lecture, Prof. Biletzki accused Israel for creating a colonialist structure with obvious elements of Apartheid and a cruel military occupation. The fence (not a wall)is considered the symbol of apartheid.

The 2 terms: apartheid and military occupation contradict each other:
A MILITARY OCCUPATION is taking control of a foreign territory by force and forcing its citizens to live under military rule.
APARTHEID is a term used for depriving political and human rights from citizens of a country as part of a racist policy, namely, because of the color of their skin.

The Palestinians on the Western Bank and Gaza strip were never Israeli citizens. They were under Jordanian rule from 1948/9 until 1967 and became Jordanian citizens. When Israel conquered the Western Bank, after it was attacked in 1967 by Jordan, the inhabitants were Jordanian citizens.

The Israeli- Palestinian Conflict is neither an Apartheid issue, nor a human rights issue. IT IS A NATIONAL CONFLICT between two nationalities who demand a claim on the same territory. The fence was not built to separate between 2 races on racist grounds, but to separate 2 nations, since one nation, the Palestinians, terrorized the people of the other nation, the Israeli- Jews.

If there are differences on the location of the fence, there are 2 ways to solve them: to complain before the Israeli High Court, or to negotiate.

The Palestinians still live under Israeli occupation because they have rejected all proposals to end the conflict (1967, 2000, 2009). Dr.Shaker Al- Nabulsi, a Jordanian- American writer and journalist said, Palestinians could have a state long ago, have not they missed every opportunity to get it ( See ,article on this web site).

One state for the 2 nations is a prescription to a bloody Civil War, terror and death of innocent people.

Why?

First, the Palestinian leadership has been conducting an ongoing agitation policy in the Palestinian media and the school system against Jews and Israelis, and the religious leaders have been conducting a religious agitation against the Jewish people in general and Israelis in particular. How can the 2 people live together in peace after such a continuous process of hatred building?

Second, after Israelis have been accused for years of war crimes and crimes against humanity during the Israeli occupation, what are the chances that the Palestinians will not take advantage of their majority and not only discriminate, but also massacre Israelis?

Third, international experience with multi- national states is a negative one. Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union were failures as multi- national entities and, finally, disintegrated. North Ireland went through a long and bloody civil war. In Sudan, the Africans are victims of bloody massacres. Checoslovacia was divided into Checia and Slovacia. The situation in Belgium between the 2 ethnic groups, the Flems and the Walloons, is very tense, and French- Canadians want a separate state.

Fourth, Jews and Palestinians had already lived together under the British Mandate and failed to live in peace. The 1936 Peel Committee investigated the situation and recommended separation to 2 states. The 1947 International Investigation Committee of the UN came to the same conclusion.

Why ignore all these and create a new situation for bloodshed?

A 2 state solution based on the right of self- determination for both nations makes much more sense for both sides of the conflict.
The settlements, the refugee problem and all other issues can be solved along the lines of the Clinton – Barak proposal of 2000 at the Camp David Summit, and other proposals:
The refugees will be settled in the Palestinian state with the help of an international project.
The settlements will be grouped and annexed to Israel and Israel will compensate Palestine with an Israeli territory.
Jerusalem will become the capital of 2 states.
The Holy Mountain will be controlled by a committee of the 3 religions.
The fence will become the border line between the 2 states with some changes.
The agitation against Israel will stop.
Compensation for Palestinian and Jewish refugees from Arab countries will be agreed upon.
Both sides will declare: end of conflict.
